February means pre-registration for the 2008-09 school year. This will be a big school year for us. It will be Hannah's last year (8th grade) in a Lutheran school -- also the last year we have to make a big tuition payment. She'll go to public high school where I'm sure there will be plenty of fees, but it can't be much compared to what private school tuition (and fees) are.
While the financial implications look good, it also makes me realize that we've only got just over 5 more years to get this kid ready to face the world, i.e., go off to college. I might be tempted to go on about how the years have flown by, but they really haven't. It does feel like this kid has been in our lives for 13 years.
It's been a long journey up to this point. Weekends fly by, vacations fly by, but the raising of a child really ages a person. The weight of all those years of worry and pain and love shape you in ways you didn't expect.
